East Dyke Farm
I spent a lot of time planning and selecting my areas to shoot, but this shoot was obvious from the start. I spent a lot of time at the farm as a child, and still do working there in the farmhouse BnB every summer. The 350 acre working farm has been a big part of our family for many years handed down from my Grandad to my Uncle. The land holds a lot of history, the farm is built upon the Clovelly Dykes Prehistoric hill fort - a place i explored as a child and still do as it is private land.
"Clovelly Dykes is one of largest and most impressive Early Iron Age hillforts in Devon. This PRIVATE site comprises of a complex series of earthworks covering more than 8.09 hectares, built in more than one phase of construction. Due to indicators including the positioning, scale and entrance features, it is believed that the hillfort did not serve a particularly defensive function. Instead it possibly played a key role in the seasonal gathering of livestock. High status items such as a blue glass bead and a high quality axe have been found here."
My images
Although i was against the bright sun during this shoot i was surprised and pleased with the resultant images. some images we a bit off focus, but mostly overall good, strong images in particular the last three, the road that the separates the farm, the dykes and the slurry pit all, i intend to use these images within my final book. one downside is i wish the hay bales image was in better focus but this is something i can re visit and rectify. This is the only shoot that included building and objects as subject as such, these images i don't think actually as well as the more open spaced images with subtle indications of land use, rather than being so obvious.
