"Raymond Moore (1920-1987) was a post-war British fine art landscape photographer. Moore became interested in photography at a time when the medium was still seenas an unrecognised form of craft, rather than a serious art form. Moore saw fresh possibilities in the composition and framing of everyday English landscapes, he went on throughout his career to create a substantial series of black and white fine art landscape imagery. Moore was a teacher for the greater part of his life, known as one of the greats. Moore produced many exhibitions and gained recognition but his work has now been out of print for more than 20 years, a great shame. His images explore the boundaries between spaces, whether through fields, walls, fences, frames, windows or verges, Moore was a visionary. He didn't aim to capture the 'pretty' images yet the real gritty rural english landscapes. His images should be viewed as iconic coming from a damaged era. He didn't long for sunny days and dramatic sun sets, he stated " to this vile weather we owe our most charming effects". I share Moore's view in that no matter the weather or scene, all landscapes hold their own beauty and deserve understanding, something that i convey within my own work.
I have previously studied Moore's work, creating my own images in light of his style (my images shown below) i want to keep this style in mind when continuing my open landscape images within this project, perhaps revisiting previously shot scenes in order to improve and use a different method of shooting eg: medium format, i need to think carefully about the composition and subject within the image.
