Aleksandras a self taught photographer was born in Lithuania in 1938. In 1968 he traveled around Lithuania as an engineer with a friend, with his camera in tow and captured an extensive collection of imagery documenting rural villages. He began to photograph country village markets creating a body of work entitled 'Lithuanian Village Market, he used high speed 35mm film and a wide angle lens to allow the viewer into close range of his subjects.

It's his market series that stands out to me, a set of raw and honest imagery depicting the people and animals at market. The high contrast and clear tones of his imagery gives them depth and a kind of sense of the space around him. Farmers markets and produce are a large part of my heritage and its interesting to see that depicted through a different culture.
